Growing up on Mercer Island, an affluent suburb of Seattle, my friends were children of people on the Forbes 400 "richest" list. My family was middle class (and at times struggling with 5 children – me being the youngest). My dad was a Boeing engineer and my mom was a housewife. Seeing my friends' opulent homes, clothes, cars and vacations made me start searching for answers to those 2 questions. At 10 years old, my dad handed me a book and I read Think and Grow Rich.
The rest of my life was spent studying how wealth was created. My motivation was based on a simple desire to live life without any limitations, experience the abundance God provided, without being restricted by a lack of money. I wanted to travel, see the world and experience it fully. It led me to getting a business degree and working more than two decades on Wall Street, mostly in management and sales, representing professional money managers. Along the way, I started managing my own money by investing in individual stocks and grew my portfolio to $2 million at age 39.
Years later my husband passed away suddenly and I realized the decisions women will have to make on their own and how overwhelming it can be. I wanted to make it easier for women to feel confident with their finances and attain financial freedom. That's why I became America's Wealth Mentor™, started the Be Wealthy & Smart podcast and wrote the book You're Already a Wealth Heiress, Now Think and Act Like One: 6 Practical Steps to Make It a Reality Now!
